Enjoying the AM

March 8th, 2010

If you know me, you know that I am not a morning person - might have something to do with the fact that I go to bed so late (mom by day, editor by night.)

Despite the fact that we are mostly on time walking my eldest daughter to school, something usually gets in the way - either a fight about mittens, urgent need to go to the bathroom as we are heading out the door, a forgotten assignment, someone to chit chat with on the way, or some awesome ice to crack!

You KNOW you want to!

After dropping ‘S’ off, my youngest girl & I continued on an ice cracking adventure down the back alley. (She attends PM Kindergarten for obvious reasons - & yes, she is wearing her PJ’s to drop off her big sister … and I was wearing a hat!)

Upon returning home we played basketball with chunks of snow.

… so, put down that briefcase for a quick minute and look for some ice to crack. It is good for the soul !

Moroccan Welcoming Celebration

March 7th, 2010

I was invited by a beautiful client-friend to her daughter’s traditional Moroccan Welcoming Celebration. As I always try to support my clients and friends, and especially since I was thought of when the invitations were sent, I went. (It was an honor to be asked.)

I was welcomed at the door with a huge smile and hug. All the females in her daughter’s life were there. The food was so tasty and I enjoyed a special traditional dish that is only prepared at a birth and when celebrating a birth. It sounded incredibly labor-intensive.

Pretty soon the music came on and the dancing began! All these women laughing and dancing in joy was an incredible sight. Community and celebration seem to be an important component in their culture.

Here is a card I created for sweet little ‘M’ (without of course, the logo.) I took the maternity and newborn photos (complete with gorgeous traditional gowns.)

I seriously meet some amazing people in my line of work.

How Cool

March 2nd, 2010

Here is a fantastically entertaining and inventive video from the guys behind the treadmill explosion a few years back. OKGO! This is seriously very cool - a good use of your 3:54 minutes today. Let me know what you think of it!

Canadian Pride

March 1st, 2010

With a score of 2-0 in our favour for the longest time, the most unbelievable thing happened - with 30 seconds left the Americans scored to tie the final Olympic Hockey game. The Seminar (& entire country) was interrupted for the loudest hooting & hollering when after an apparent fast & furious over-time, resulted in our Canadian Hockey team earning a GOLD medal !

& yes, I did actually write ‘seminar‘ once again.

I place strong value on education - that is why I teach individuals and groups young and old(er) about photography. It is also why I am constantly attending conferences, reading and doing online tutorials.

This weekend I participated in a 4 day symposium with some of the industries top photographers. I was a sponge learning a few things, meeting new & visiting with ‘old’ colleagues, and most importantly, getting reinforcement on the how, what, & why I do what I do.

The PPOC association hosted the speakers and wonderful gala awards ceremony. I was honored to have the opportunity to learn from Chris Keating, Tyler Meade, Scott Robert Lim and Dane Sanders (well, OK, Dane is tomorrow and I am unsure how much I will honestly be able to attend due to my own family commitments.)

Those red Olympic mittens are all bally and one is missing, my coffee mug is becoming dull … time for regular life to continue.
(Sweetness!!! I used my new-found seminar inspiration/information to create this image.)
